This special issue, devoted to the Asia-Pacific realm, offers a unique and new perspective on the global problem of dementia and cognitive disorders. The investigators from China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia span a variety fields and their research reflects the rich demographic and cultural diversity of the region. The topics range from basic clinical science to epidemiology and dementia care delivery, and include family caregiving, sociodemographic risk factors, correlates of dementia and the association of metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, orbitofrontal dysfunction discrimination of behavioral variant frontotemportal dementia from Alzheimer's disease is also reviewed. These outstanding research papers on diagnostic assessment for early diagnosis and differentiation of dementia and the cultural dimensions of dementia recognition in this special issue will be of interest to a wide range of professionals.
