Rescue Me
A coming of age story while America was coming of age. Angela, a young black woman awakens in Harlem during the turbulent late sixties and early seventies to spin an ever- changing wheel of the Black church, the sexual revolution, the traditional family, civil rights, the Vietnam War and longing for fulfillment. Although the product of a Christian home, she broke from the church and got caught up in carnal living. Peer pressure, changing societal norms, and the input of misinformed friends had reshaped her approach to living. The church's teachings were taken seriously, and she even believed her dad, whom she idolized, when he assured her that God would see her through good times and bad. Yet, tragedy was the catalyst that put her on the trajectory away from her faith. She believed that God had betrayed her. She could not trust Him. Besides, she felt she could never measure up to His standards. But, that still small voice was ever present reminding her that God's grace and providential care on her behalf had not run out. He had not gone anywhere. She had. "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it." Psalm 127:1
