Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) are the Godfathers of Folk Music but their influence spans the whole music world. Guthrie's musical career was inexorably interlinked with his search for political ideals and equality. His socialist inspiration is evident in many of his songs which feature stories of miscarriages of justice, corporate greed and the evils of elitism. His reputation for altruistism is earned by the many benefit concerts he performed and the fact he shared all his writing credits with other performers so they could share the copyright benefits. Listening to Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Tom Petty and a myriad of other great performers it's impossible not to see the impression the Godfather's of Folk have made.
